“And know that among you is the Messenger of Allah”, Allah says in Surah al Hujuraat. One’s heart can’t help but cry and feel a deep sense of emptiness upon reading this ayah. Yes, the truth is that our beloved Prophet ﷺ is not among us. He has left this world long ago. However, are our children’s hearts affected in the same manner as ours when they hear that Prophet Muhammed ﷺ has died? And that we will never be able to see him in this world ever? Does it make them sad in any way?

They do get sad when their best friend moves to another city or country or even go on a vacation. That’s because they have a bond and a connection with them. No one can be a believer if he does not love Muhammed ﷺ. And to love someone you need to know someone very closely. You must be able to see the good in them and our beloved Prophet ﷺ is full of that. Planting love, respect and honour for the Prophet of Allah ﷺ in the children’s hearts is our religious responsibility. Once the love begins to grow, obedience to him will simply follow. For no one likes to obey someone whom they dislike although they would unwillingly do it to avoid unpleasant consequences.

We need to “show” the honourable Prophet Muhammed ﷺ to our children through the Book of Allah and the books of Seerah. Studying his blessed Seerah will increase their Imaan (faith) and increase them in beneficial knowledge. This little book ‘Manners of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ, an excerpt from the book ‘Ihya Uloom al-Deen, is one of the first means for introducing the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ to your young children. Children as young as six years old will be able to see the extra-ordinary and beautiful character of the Prophet ﷺ in this simple book.

Read this book out loud to your children and even together as a family and stop every now and then to reflect, discuss and elaborate. My seven year old was completely immersed as I read it to her, Alhamdulillah.

You may choose to read it on your desktop/tablet or print out a copy. Personally, I always print out as it is more accessible as well as protects young delicate eyes from the screen.

May Allah bless us all and allow us to meet our beloved Prophet Muhammed (sal-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) in the Hereafter. Ameen.
