Introducing children to the names of Allah is one of the first, most interesting and effective way of teaching the right Islamic creed or Aqeedah. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “Knowledge of the Most Beautiful Names of Allah is the basis of all other kinds of knowledge, for all of these other branches of knowledge are devoted to either a command or a creation of His.” [Badaa’i’ al-Fawaa’id (1/163)].
Ibn Tayimiyyah said about names of Allah, “Whoever knows the names of Allah and their meanings , believing in them, will have a more complete faith that the one who does not know them but just believes in them in general.”
Ibn Sa’ad said, “Whenever a person’s knowledge of the beautiful names and attributes of Allah increases, his faith also increases and his certainty is further strengthened.”
If one has good knowledge of Allah’s names and attributes, one will then have an opening to understanding to what takes place in this creation.
Ibn al Qayyim said beautifully, “Whoever knows Allah, knows everything other than Him. Whoever is ignorant of his Lord is even more ignorant of everything other than Him.”
In light of these and many more other virtues of knowing the names of Allah parents should emphasise on teaching children about Allah at an early age so that they grow up knowing about their Lord. Our children (or humans in general) cannot fear, love or obey Allah unless they know Him.
The ‘Name of Allah for Kids’ printable book series is my humble attempt to help our children learn about Allah subhanu wa ta’ala. The follow up activities at the end of the books help the knowledge sink into their hearts and mind.
Insha’Allah this will be an ongoing project, I will keep posting the books as and when I make them. May the knowledge of Allah’s names beautify all our lives, Ameen.
